ClearCube® releases Zero Client software broker for Linux Workstations – Sentral™ CDI Management Software

Sentral 6.9 CDI Management Software connection brokering capabilities for PCoIP Zero Clients to connect to Blade PC workstations running Linux operating systems.

— ClearCube Technology has released Sentral 6.9 Centralized Desktop Infrastructure (CDI) Management Software featuring powerful connection brokering capabilities that allow Zero Clients to connect via PCoIP protocol to Blade PC workstations running Linux operating systems. This capability allows data analysts to move all high powered Linux-based computer resources from their work areas to their secure data centers.

Previously, only Windows-based workstations had zero client brokering support, but security concerns in the US government sectors have required the need to include the same capability for Linux-based workstations.

Zero Client Workstations differ from traditional PCs in that the computer, memory, and storage are remotely located in a data center, while their corresponding dual/quad displays, keyboards and mice are located at the users’ desktops connected to zero clients.

Zero Clients are small footprint, low power (6W), stateless desktop devices with no operating systems, memory or storage. High resolution displays and USB devices are connected to the zero clients and only pixel changes are sent from the remote workstations. No data is sent over the IP connection, thus providing an added layer of data security.

In addition to Linux workstation support, ClearCube’s Sentral software, included with the zero client workstations, features two very important capabilities: 1) instant Moves/Adds/Changes (MACs) and 2) source routing for allocating a secondary blade PC in the event the primary is unavailable.

Instant Moves, Adds, Changes gives government analysts the flexibility to roam freely from desktop to desktop location to collaborate without having to move any equipment. They log in from any zero client location and their connections are brokered to their designated Linux or Windows blade PC in their datacenter.

Equally important, ClearCube Sentral’s software source routing provides the ability to automatically route the user to a secondary source in the event of a primary source failure. With hot spares allocated, Sentral can be configured to switch a failed user to an active spare. This feature is highly valued in mission critical areas because users can immediately resuming working on secondary host platforms without having to wait for a technician to repair or replace their primary systems.

“We now have a technology breakthrough that allows Linux workstations to be moved to the datacenter where they can be better managed to reduce heat and noise in the work areas and to protect intellectual data property in a more secure manner,” said Jim Zakzeski, ClearCube VP, Sales and Marketing.
