ClearCube® Technology, Inc. announces the launch of the new C3Pi+ Thin Client at VMworld® 2018 US in Las Vegas on August 28, 2018. The low-cost, virus-proof thin client, based on Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+, includes VMware Blast Extreme for virtual desktops and applications. The next-generation C3Pi+ significantly increases the thin client’s processor and network speed, and adds additional Wi-Fi bands for additional deployment opportunities.
A new 2.4 GHz processor in the C3Pi+ gives users much faster response, better video decoding, and clearer images. The introduction of Gigabit Ethernet and 5 GHz wireless provides faster network connections (nearly ten times the previous generation), less network congestion, and greater compatibility in legacy and new network deployments. The thin client’s full-size HDMI port delivers high-performance graphics and multimedia equal to thin clients many times its price and size.
The C3Pi+ Thin Client uses ClearCube’s Linux®-based Cloud Desktop OS to provide optimized display and remote connection protocols. Performance is fast: From unboxing to working on Horizon desktops, it’s just a matter of minutes.
The C3Pi+ Thin Client excels in VMware Horizon® environments. Blast Extreme can provide bandwidth and performance enhancements for Horizon 7.1 deployments. Using Blast Extreme, the C3Pi+ can lower CPU consumption by offloading video decompression from its CPU to its native hardware using H.264 decoding. Blast Extreme also lets Administrators add Linux desktops to their Horizon deployments, along with Windows desktops.
The C3Pi+ helps lower IT capital expenditures. The cost of many projects can increase quickly when hardware is added, but the C3Pi+ Thin Client is truly an exception. Based on the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+, the cost of the C3Pi+ is $139.95. This thin client ensures client devices are no obstacle to VDI deployments.
“Our customers have found the C3Pi+ to be a powerful solution in many different environments,” said Doug Layne, VP of Global Sales at ClearCube. “Its high speed and performance, breadth of networking features, and its low cost make the C3Pi+ a compelling thin client solution for many customer use cases,” he said.
ClearCube’s Cloud Desktop OS makes it fast and easy for organizations and companies of all sizes to immediately benefit from VDI client computing. Organizations can use Cloud Desktop OS at all stages of the VDI deployment—from re-purposing existing desktops as thin clients, to powering the C3Pi+ Thin Client, to supporting other ClearCube thin client models. ClearCube’s Cloud Desktop Management solution provides Administrators with a browser-based interface for client grouping, client configuration inheritance, and automatic client updates over the network. Cloud Desktop Management enables Administrators to reduce costs, deploy IT assets, and manage them with ease.
C3Pi+ features include a Broadcom BCM2837B0 quad-core A53 (ARMv8) 64-bit SoC (1.4 GHz), Broadcom VideoCore IV GPU, 1 GB LPDDR2 SDRAM, 8 GB high-speed microSD card, Gigabit Ethernet over USB 2.0, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz 802.11.b/g/n/ac WLAN, Bluetooth 4.2 (BLE), full-size HDMI port, 3.5 mm audio-video jack, four USB 2.0 ports, Cloud Desktop Operating System, and a power cable with an in-line power button. The optional C3Pi Mount Kit supports mounting to computer monitors (for both 75 mm and 100 mm VESA hole patterns) and under desks.
