What is a Tempest Certified Workstation?

Simply put, Tempest-certified workstations have been specially prepared with superior shielding technology to block surreptitious tracking of the transmission of signals or data between workstation peripherals (keyboard, mouse, monitor).   This is a necessary safeguard when a computer that is used for highly sensitive communications and data access is in use in an area that is not fully secured.  Examples would be an embassy in foreign country, an intelligence agency office in a public building, a military office on the perimeter of a base, a nuclear power plant, etc.

This bundle features a Tempest Level 2 certification.  This means that this equipment is certified for moderate containment of classified signals.  ClearCube offers a Tempest Bundle with Level 1 certification designed for the highest containment of classified signals.  See that bundle here.

What makes the ClearCube Tempest Bundle More Secure?

Through the use of a ClearCube Zero Client, the Tempest Bundle by ClearCube offers superior data protection security as compared to a traditional desktop or laptop PC.  To understand why you must understand the answers to questions, such as “What is a Zero Client?” and “What makes a Zero Client so secure?”

Here are four key security protections added by using a ClearCube Zero Client.  These four protections also explain what a Zero Client is and what makes a Zero Client exceptionally secure.  First, using a ClearCube Zero Client eliminates the transmission of data packets to and from the workstation.  Instead, only 256-bit encrypted pixels are transmitted, the actual data stays in your data center or in your cloud infrastructure.  Second, no useable data or credentials are stored on the Zero Client.  This means that no useable data can be recovered from a Zero Client, even if it were disassembled.  Third, there’s no software footprint to be hacked or otherwise attacked.  The firmware and bios are locked, so there’s effectively no hackable operating system that could be infiltrated.  A Zero Client can only connect to one defined connection point–a centralized computer, a virtual machine, or a cloud system.  Moreover, once the assigned connection is designated within a locked bios, the Zero Client cannot be redirected to any other connection point.  Finally, the ClearCube Zero Client used in this Tempest Bundle connects to the network via a fiber network connection.  The fiber connection emits no externally receivable signals that could be intercepted.
